The former USSR, headed by Russia, were communist countries. Most of the outlying territories were taken by force and unwillingly converted to communist governments.
The Bolsheviks established, so they called, a Communist government. However, this government is falsely named as communism (an idea created by Karl Marx) is an utopia with no form of government whatsoever. This "Communism" was more of a dictatorship. Even though countries claim to be, or have been, communist, no country has ever achieved communism.

It can be considered a form of imperialism. Imperialism is the policy of extending a power or influence over other nations, while containment is the policy of preventing the spread of communism. For the U.S., communism was a threat to their economy and government, and as a result, their efforts to stop communism would benefit both other nations and the U.S. themselves, which would increase their power. The fact that the U.S. was able to influence the governments and events of other nations to prevent communism also shows imperialism.

Capitalism is not a form of government. Communism is not a form of government. Socialism is not a form of government. All three of those are economic forms, not forms of government.
