lots of places to leak from, where to start,ok oil,pan gasket, drainscrew seal, oil filter seal, front and rear main seals, dip tube seal, valve cover gaskets ,andtiming cover gasket.
now for tranny, front seal, rear tail seal, pan gasket, drain seal, dip tube, and sometimes tourqe converter will leak. good luck man.
Mercron transmission fluid is used in a 1978 Ford Thunderbird. Type F fluid can also be used but should not be mixed.
You will refill the transmission fluid in 1990 Thunderbird in the fluid case found in the bonnet of the car. You should ensure that it is about 1/4 inch below the fill plug hole.Ê

Through dipstick tube-auto?
You can't the transmission on the 2002 Thunderbird is sealed. There is no distick or any way to add fluid other than through the ports on the transmission under the car. The dealer has to do that. It shouldn't need fluid unless it has a leak. If it is leaking it has to be done by a mechanic that will fix the leak and then drain the entire transmission and refill it through the ports on the bottom.
On a 1996 Ford Thunderbird : Through the automatic transmission fluid dipstick tube ( using a funnel ) The dipstick is located near the firewall , in the engine compartment , on the right side of the engine ( passenger side )
It means there is a leak that needs repaired.

Drain out the transmission fluid and replace with the correct fluid. Some types of transmission fluid are incompatible with other types of tranmssion fluid or with the transmission itself, and can destroy your transmission.
take it to a mechanic and get it repaired.
