Respect for her family, gods and traditions packaged with a temper is what Antigone reveals in terms of noble qualities and faults in "Antigone" by Sophocles (495 B.C.E. - 405 B.C.E.).
Specifically, noble describes qualities that are worthy of emulation and that work to individual and collective well-being. The description fits Theban Princess Antigone when she defends and respects demanding gods, fragile traditions and vulnerable family members. But at the same time, nobility is lacking when Antigone lets loose with her violent temper.
Duty, responsibility and truthfulness are the noble qualities that Antigone displays in "Antigone" by Sophocles (495 B.C.E. - 405 B.C.E.).Specifically, the term noble describes excellent, high, outstanding qualities. The description fits Theban Princess Antigone's commitment to duty, responsibility and truthfulness. For example, she makes it an honorable duty to defend divine will, family ties and Theban traditions. She takes responsibility and tells the truth about burying her brother Polyneices, complying with divine will, and defending divinely sanctioned Theban traditions of below ground burials.

A noble is of high birth or rank. The description applies in many ways to Antigone. First, she is the direct descendantof Cadmus, who was the founder and the first King of Thebes, in about 2000 B.C.E.* Second, she is the daughter of Oedipus and Jocasta, the previous royal rulers of Thebes. Third, she is the niece of the reigning Theban King, Creon. And fourth, she is the first cousin and fiancee of Haemon, Theban Prince and son of King Creon. *Before the Christian Era
Creon is the tragic hero of Antigone. He matches Aristotle's definition of a tragic hero exactly. He is of noble birth, because he is the king and because he was formerly the brother of the queen (Jocasta) and the uncle of the king (Eteocles). Second is his flaw, which is hubris, overbearing pride. He is so overconfident in himself that he ignores the law of the gods and everyone else's advice. The reversal of fortune happened directly after it was predicted by Teiresias, his entire family was lost, and his attempt to right his wrongs failed completely. Then the anagnorisis takes place and he realizes what he has done wrong. The weight of what he had done comes crashing down on him, the fact that all that happened was his fault. Antigone also fits some of these qualities, but not all. One can say that she is stubborn, but that doesn't really qualify as hamartia because it doesn't really cause the downfall of everything. The reversal of fortune was caused by Creon's mistakes. Plus, there is no realization by her before she dies. Instead she is steadfast in her belief that she is doing the right thing. Though Creon DOES display many of the tragic hero traits, Antigone, herself, may also be considered the tragic hero of Antigone. A tragic hero is described as a "literary character who makes an error of judgment or has a fatal flaw that, combined with fate and external forces, brings on a tragedy". In this specific play, Antigone's fatal flaw would be burying her brother against the will of Creon. This caused the crisis at the end of the story. Her death was the beginning of the chain of deaths of Haemon and Eurdyices.
Some characteristics of Antigone include the fact that she is tragic and unable to bend. She is also a feminist and she is a romantic idealist making her believe that committing suicide is noble.

Agamemnon and Paris lacked Achilles' bravery and fighting skill in Homer's epic, The Illiad. In Sophocles' Antigone, King Creon of Thebes lacks Antigone's honor and willingness to respect the gods.

The name Alicia is of Old German origin and means "noble" or "of noble kind." It is a variant of the name Alice and has variations in different languages such as Alecia or Alyssa.
A noble ranks high in terms of birth or of rank. Antigone ranked high, because of her noble social standing. On both her parents' sides, she was the direct descendant of Cadmus, who first founded Thebes around 2000 B.C.E.* Additionally, she was the first cousin and fiancee of Haemon, the son of reigning King Creon of Thebes. So Antigone was descended from Theban royalty. She also would have consolidated her royal ties even further had she and Haemon, the heir apparent, married instead of committing suicide. *Before the Christian Era
