Redstone is a mineral that is found in underground caverns in minecraft, occuring at the bottom 16 layers of the map. It has a unique attribute in that it glows when stepped on or right-clicked. It was introduced in Alpha 1.0.1.

Redstone ore can be collected if mined with an iron or diamond pickaxe, and takes 0.75 seconds when mined with an iron pickaxe, 0.6 seconds if mined with a diamond pickaxe. Before 1.9 PR6, it was the ore with the longest mining time, taking 4.5 seconds to mine using either iron or diamond pickaxes.

Mining a Redstone Ore will drop 4-5 piles of Redstone Dust. This can be used as wiring to power certain blocks. Using imagination and creativity, they can be used to make complex Redstone Circuits.
