Mormon pioneers moving into new towns in the early 1800's were often abused or chased out. There are records of homes being burned, women raped, men beaten or killed, and various other crimes in attempt to get the Mormons to move away. Once the Mormons reached Utah in 1847, however, they found relative peace. Despite some contention with Native Americans and the US Government, they were able to establish hundreds of settlements across the west that are thriving cities today.

What is the Mormon town in Utah called?

There isn't a 'Mormon town' in Utah. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) live in every town in Utah, and settled about 90% of them. Mormons are the majority religion in most, if not all, cities in Utah.

What was Utah's first non-Mormon town and why was it started?

Utah was inhabited by (obviously) non-Mormon tribes for thousands of years prior to white men arriving. The first "town" settled by white people is generally considered to be Ogden (then called Fort Buenaventura), which was more of a trading post that had permanent residents. It was settled two years before the Mormons arrived.

Why was cedar city the first non Mormon in Utah?

I would definitely not call Cedar City the first non-Mormon town in Utah. Cedar City was established by Mormons in 1851 and has had a Mormon majority population ever since.Several other towns in Utah were "non-Mormon" towns, such as Ogden (established by fur trappers a year before the Mormons arrived) and Park City (originally settled by Mormons but became a mostly non-Mormon mining town in the 1860's).

What is the first territorial capital of Utah?

All of what is now Utah was inhabited by several non-Mormon native tribes for thousands of years prior to the Mormons moving in. Ogden was a small trapping and trading outpost (called Fort Bueneventura) settled two years prior to the Mormons arriving, although it wasn't much of a 'town' at the time.
