Regardless of advertising hype, the brand of oil used in a car has no real effect on gas mileage. Clean new oil of any brand will make the motor run more efficiently and reduce engine heat somewhat through optimal lubrication, but the effect on gas mileage is negligible. Some arguments have been made that synthetics improve mileage, but it's not really enough to be quantifiable.
Engine oil can contribute far more to engine longevity than gas mileage. In this respect, synthetics (e.g., Mobil1) have a demonstrable track record for being better in 4-cycle engines. The most important thing is to change oil (and oil filter) at regular intervals with oil of the weight specified by the manufacturer and maintain proper oil levels at all times.
I assume "High mileage oil" refers to oil that does not need to be changed for a "high mileage". What might be called "long life oil". The point is not that it's better, or worse, for the car. The point is that it lasts longer. This means it does not need to be changed as often. This means the car will use less oil during it's life, generating less toxic waste (Used engine oil is "Very Nasty Stuff"!) to be re-processed. TO sum up, it's not better for the car, but it is better for you, me, everyone else, and the planet we all live on. There are oils that are formulated for high mileage engines.
Pennzoil High Mileage conventional oil.
SAE 5w30 any major brand of High Mileage oil.
You can use Lucas oil treatment in just about any type of oil. I use it with Valvoline high mileage.
No it will not. If it is a coupon for a regular oil change, you will not be able to get that special rate on the high mileage oil change.
No, you can and should use high mileage oil if the vehicle has over 100,000 on the ODO.
Switching to a High Mileage oil is a smart move but using an additive I would not recommend. All the additive you need is already in the High Mileage oil you buy as long as you purchase a quality name brand oil.
A high mileage 10w30A high mileage 10w30
10w-30 high mileage oil
I recommend a high mileage oil such as Pennzoil High Mileage in the weight the manufacture of the vehicle recommends.
I use Penzoil high mileage in my 105,000 mile LT1 caprice with an AC Delco filter. You can get a 5 qt jug for around $13 at walmart.
There -high mileage- oils that can improve the way your car is run. Some brands that do this are Valvoline and Castrol.
