Crayola was originally founded on January 25th, 1885. It was founded by Edwin Binney and C. Harold Smith in New York as "Binney & Smith. Originally, it produced colorants for industrial use. The company was very innovative and pioneered a new process of creating inexepensive black colorants as well inventing dustless, white chalk. In 1903, they introduced the first box of 8 colored crayons under the name Crayola. In 1949, the 48 color pack made its debut. In 1958, the 64 color pack was introduced.
