The NT doesn't compare the local church (the church you go to) with a body. But it does compare the universal church (all believers in Christ) to a body. The universal church is like a body because it is made up of many parts (believers). These parts should function in harmony together - just as the many parts of a body function together. No part is more important than another part. Every part has a function.Just as a head leads/controls a body, Christ is the head of the universal church.Comment: Just what do you mean by universal as a mainstream church carries this as part of its name? The Bible calls the Church Jesus established, 'the Church of God,' in about 12 places in the N.T.. Is this your 'universal' Church?? This Church, by the way, has always had the 'little flock.'
Believers make up the church. If you are a Christian, then WE are the church. There are many people who think that the church is only a building but the church is the body of Christ. The church is those who are the hands and feet of Jesus and those who reach out into their world to make a difference for the sake of the gospel. I think that the church is supposed to be made up of the difference makers and the ones who have passion about being a light in the dark world. Young and old alike make up the church. Many ethnicities make up the church. I am a part of the body of Christ. I and fellow believers who are also a part of the body of Christ make up the church. However, this is not to say that those who do not believe cannot be the church. They have an opened door to believe the word of God and to also become a part of the body of Christ, and in turn a part of the church.
A Christian! The Church is not the entire Church but simply an outshowing of the Body of Christ. It is simply that part of the Church in England, a Communion of believers.

Chickenpox in children and adults is typically throughout the body. Shingles is likely to be found on only one part of the body.
To believe in One Holy Catholic Church is to obey Christ, as He, Himself, set up a society to teach people about God, Salvation, and the means to achieve it. Not to do so would be to tell God that you know better than He what he intended to do and how he wanted it to be done!
Paul compares the church to a body by saying that each part of the human body carries out a specific function and that they also all work together to make a completely working body. For the church, we all have certain roles (believe it or not) that we carry out and together as the "Body of Christ" we shall be united and build each other up.
