the sigmoid colon is directly before the rectum.
The sigmoid (or pelvic) colon is located right before the rectum.
Sigmoid colon
The removal of colon is called a colectomy. The name will vary according to the site: Right hemicolectomy or Left hemicolectomy for removal of left or right side of colon, and Sigmoid colectomy for removal of sigmoid colon and Anterior resection for removal of colon and upper rectum and finally APR (Abdomino Perineal Resection) which is resection of lower part of colon and rectum
The sequence of the colon is: cecum with the attached appendix, the ascending colon, transverse colon, the descending colon, and the sigmoid colon (S shaped) and ends at the rectum.
If everything's working right, water is reabsorbed by the colon.
The small intestine has 3 parts: duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. The large intestine starts on the right with the ascending colon proceeds across the body as the transverse colon and then goes down on the left side of the body as the descending colon. The descending colon becomes the sigmoid colon. The rectum and anal canal follow. The celiac trunk gives off the common hepatic artery, which branches into the proper hepatic artery and the gastroduodenal artery. The gastroduodenal artery gives off the supraduodenal, retroduodenal, anterior and posterior superior pancreaticoduodenal arteries. These 4 arteries supply the duodenum. The superior mesenteric artery branches into several different arteries. The anterior and posterior pancreaticoduodenal arteries supply the duodenum. Intestinal arteries have a complex network of arcades that feed the jejunum and ileum. The ileocecal artery off the SMA gives off branches to the terminal ileum and the cecum. The right colic artery supplies the ascending colon. The inferior mesenteric artery branches into the middle colic artery, which supplies the transverse colon; the left colic artery, which supplies the descending colon; the sigmoid artery, to the sigmoid colon; rectosigmoid artery, in between the rectum and the sigmoid colon; superior rectal artery, to the uppermost part of the rectum.
Rectum is located in your pelvic cavity. Pelvic cavity is part of your abdomen or abdominal cavity.
Right before defecation, feces is stored in the rectum. Before that, it is in the large intestine. If you mean outside of the body, then feces would be stored in a septic tank or lagoon.
The function of the Large Intestine (or Colon) is to absorb any remaining vitamins or minerals in your waste. The anus is just a exit for you waste. The rectum, which is right before the anus, hold the feces before it exits your body.
Ulcerative colitis effects the colon and rectum and is a type of inflammetory disease that can cause ulcers in the sides of the colon and rectum. This can be very serious and should be treated right away.

Colon is divided into several distinct regions, ascending colon, right colic flexure, transverse colon, left colic flexure, descending colon, sigmoid colon. The Colon is part of the large intestine.Large intestine is connected to small intestine through ileocecal valve and is about 5 feet long. It ends at the anus, encircles small intestine on 3 sides and has subdivisions called the cecum, vermiform, appendix, colon, rectum, anal canal. There is no difference between the colon and large intestine. Colon is just another word for large intestine.Actually: The colon is the largest part of the large intestine, there is a descending, transverse, and ascending colon, right and left colic flexure, as well as the sigmoid colon, these are all parts of the colon. However the colon is not the only part of the large intestine, there are also the cecum, vermiform appendix, rectum, and anal canal. Therefore the colon carries it towards the rectum, but the rectum is not part of the colon.
The rectum is at the end of the large intestine; just inside the anus.
Subdivisions of large intestineCaecum (5-8 cm lying between the small intestine and ascending portion of colon)Appendix (blind ending finger like projection at the end of caecum)Ascending portion of colon (which goes up the right side of body to the level of liver)Transverse portion of colon (lying horizontally below the liver and stomach)Descending portion of colon (passes down to the left side of body)Sigmoid part of colon (slightly bent and enters the rectum)Rectum (21-23 cm long opens into anal canal)Anal canal (2.5 cm long)
Lower right and left quadrant

you put the asterisk right before the semicolon
In the abdominal cavity. It connects to the small intestine in the lower right of the abdominal area, goes up (ascending colon), across, down descending colon), across (transverse colon), and down (sigmoid colon) to the rectum and anus.
