Brake master cylinder repair is where someone or some body fixes the master cylinder on your brakes. It is the main line to your brake apparatus. Also the master cylinder is the container for the fluid and the piston, forming part of a device such as a hydraulic brake or clutch.

In a internal combustion engine, a cylinder ridge is an unworn area around the top of the cylinder wall. In that engine, the piston moves up and down in the cylinder, and the rings seal the piston in that cylinder. But the rings are spaced "down a bit" from the top of the piston. And when the piston reaches top dead center in the cylinder, the rings haven't gone all they way to the top of the cylinder. They end up wearing the cylinder out "underneath" that top area. In other words, it's the top part of the cylinder that is not in contact with the piston rings. It's the "unworn" part, if you will.

The difference between a piston and a plunger may be understood if you observe what forms the seal that precludes the fluid from passing either the Plunger or Piston. The 'piston' is a steel block equipped with elastomers that makes wall contact with the cylinder wall. As it moves inside the cylinder it wipes the wall and displaces the entire content of the cylinder. In this case the seals form part of the piston. The 'plunger' is a steel block that moves through a hole that is equipped with elastomer seals. The plunger displaces a portion of the cylinder contents, i.e., the volume of the plunger that enters the cylinder. The plunger does not wipe the walls of the cylinder. There is an engine block which houses all the moving parts of an internal combustion engine, and a cylinder which is a part of that block, the cylinder is where the piston moves inside and where combustion takes place.
The 'jug' refers to the cylinder part of the engine, it's between the crankcase and the cylinder head. It's the section that the piston travels up and down in.
