The amount of oxygen that you breathe in a day is estimated to be about 7.2 kilograms. Twenty-one percent of the air we breathe in per breath is oxygen.

All oxygen absorbed by the body is used, and none is spared and unused.

That is not to say that all the oxygen in the air inhaled is absorbed. Only about 4% - 6% is actually absorbed.

actually we breathe in 21% of oxygen we breathe out 16% which means we use 5%. because of this 16% we breathe out we can hold our breath so our lungs can use that 16%.

No. The air exhaled is oxygen depleted by a small amount. About 4% - 6% of the oxygen inhaled is absorbed by the body.

What gases are inhaled air then exhaled air?

The lungs exchange carbon dioxide for oxygen. e.g. Expiration removes CO2; Inspiration brings O2. The lungs also expel nitrogen and other trace gases found in the air (such as argon). Some oxygen is also included as not all the oxygen you inhale is used by the body.

Ho does oxygen reach the cells of the body?

When you inhale in the lungs the air goes into little sacks called alveoli. In the alveoli gaseous exchange occurs this is when the carbon dioxide from the capillaries is exchanged for the oxygen you inhaled. When in the capillaries the red blood cells absorbs the oxygen and transports it around the body until all the oxygen is absorbed by the body it is then brought backed to the lungs where gaseous exchange occurs again.

Where is oxygen used in the body?

Oxygen is used in every cell of the body. It is a reactant in respiration, which gives us the energy to sustain life. Food + oxygen = carbon dioxide + water. This results in the release of energy.

What is sent out of the body every time you exhale?

When you exhale, you actually release oxygen, nitrogen and other gasses. But most of all you release more carbon dioxide. People often think that the lungs must be full of carbon dioxide but they are not. The percentage of gas in the lungs that is highest is nitrogen. It isn't used by your body but is important in keeping your lungs inflated. But all-in-all, you exhale more carbon dioxide than you inhale.

What do trees inhale at night?

Trees don't really inhale, they take in gases. Trees take in air but they use the carbon dioxide from the air, and let out oxygen as a waste product of this. They continue doing this all day and night exactly the same

Why you inhale oxygen rather than nitrogen?

One cannot help but inhale a certain amount of nitrogen with every breath, due to its high concentration in the air. However, nitrogen is not used as extensively by the body as oxygen, and thus most of what is inhaled is then exhaled back into the atmosphere. Oxygen is used all the time in cellular respiration, while nitrogen is less commonly needed.

How does the oxygen you inhale get to all of your blood cells?

It enters the bloodstream through the capillaries surrounding the alveoli in the lungs. Oxygen is then transported by the blood to all of the body cells by a protein in the red blood cells called hemoglobin that binds oxygen with a capacity of 1.34 mL O2 per gram of hemoglobin.

What is so dangerous about carbon monoxide?

It's not that carbon monoxide is toxic, but it bonds with haemoglobin in the blood more readily than oxygen does. If your bloodstream is full of carbon monoxide it can't carry oxygen so you asphyxiate and die.
