It varies based on the televions provider. Most providers have the local chanels, movie channels, sports channels, and a couple education channels in HD. In time though this will increase and eventually everything will be in HD.

Are square screen TVs still manufactured?

By square, the question probably refers to the 4 : 3 aspect ratio that all televisions used until the 1990s. The move towards wide screen (16 wide by 9 high) has been going on for about 20 years. Europe was the first region to adopt the 16 : 9 format with most standard definition television production using it by about 2000. North America on the other hand made no moves towards the wide format until HD television was introduced. Standard definition television signals can be formatted in either widescreen or standard format but HD content is only produced in 16 : 9 format. HD production is now becoming the norm throughout the television world. This is a global standard for HD so there is no prospect of television reverting to the 4 : 3 format.

How do they make high-definition movies from old low-definition movies?

Most movies are originate on film rather than video tape. It is only in fairly recent years that they have been originated in a video format. The effective resolution of film is far higher than standard definitions television and indeed is higher than HD television as well. Converting from film to a video format will result in a resolution equivalent to the television format because the film resolution will normally be higher than the television format. The majority of broadacsters are now moving to HD telecine equipment (The device that converts film to video). We should expect to see better quality when we watch movies in HD even if the original content is relatively old. Not that movies made for television are often shot directly to video. If the video format was standard definition when the program was made, the quality will always remain standard definition. Although broadcasters may well convert the SD content into an HD format, the quality will NOT become HD.

Which is more clear an lcd or HD tv?

LCD and HD are not comparable. HDTV is a high-resolution format that can be played on plasma TVs, LCD TVs, LED LCD TVs, and so on. To ask which is more clear is like asking "Which has better sound, a CD or a CD player."

What kind of TV for Blu-ray player?

Any television will work with a Bluray player but to get the full quality of the Bluray format, you will need an HD television with an HDMI input. Televisions that do not have an HMDI input can use the analog output from the player but the signal will be SD rather than HD.

Does this Tv accomidate wide screen mode movies?

Yes. This has the ability to show HD format, so it will be able to have different formats according to the input used. Wide screen movies will be shown with the entire width used, but a small black bar at the top and bottom of the screen, and full-screen movies will be shown with the vertical maximum and a black bar at the left and right.

Will satellite TV be all HD in February 2009?

No. All satellite TV is digital now. Some satellite TV is HD now, and more will be switching from HD to "standard" resolution. The February 2009 analog-to-digital switchover in the United States has nothing to do with HD. The digital conversion changes the format of the over-the-air broadcast channels from analog to all digital. But if you have satellite or cable TV, you don't get "broadcast" signals anyway.

Will a Blu-ray disk look good on 720p?

Bluray discs support all HD formats. That includes 1080 and 720 resolutions. Although 720p has fewer lines than 1080 it is still a full HD format. The format that is used is entirely dependant on the content stored on the disc so if the production is mastered in a 720p format, that is exactly how it will come off the disc. Once the signal reaches the television, it needs to be the right format for the display. Although most larger HD televisions are 1920 x 1080 screen resolution, many have screens that have a different pixel count. Another common screen format is 768 lines. Any incoming signal, whether it is 720, 1080 or a standard definition, the image will be re-sized to fit the pixels on the screen. Whichever HD format is delivered to the television, the end result will still look good and certainly will be a significant improvement on any SD signal.

Can a 720p TV be used as a 1080p?

All HD televisions are capable of displaying both 1080i and 720p formats. They are both considered to be minimum standards for HD capability. 1080p is a higher data rate than the others and a few older HD models cannot handle the format. Any of the later HD televisions will also accept 1080p. In all cases, the television will convert the incoming signal to a size to suit the native resolution of the television.

What is HD Component Video Inputs?

HD television signals are always in a component format. There are three signals that between them carry brightness and color information. Almost all domestic equipment uses an HDMI interface to carry the signal in a digital format now but there is also an analog HD component standard. The analog component connector is either on three RCA connectors or three BNC connectors. Pressure from the film and television industry has persuaded manufacturers to adopt HDMI as the only HD interface on modern equipment. As a result, HD analog component inputs to displays are virtually redundant now.
