Bemberg is a trade name for a type of Rayon or Viscose fiber- essentially a regenerated cellulose. The majority of Rayon comes from trees- hard and softwood- predominantly softwood via a pre-hydrolysis kraft process or HW/SW mixes of the Sulfite process, though a select few producers of Cotton Linter dissolving pulp remain.
Bemberg in particular uses a variation on the viscose process using Copper and Ammonium. Due to the hazards associated with ammonia and copper the production of Bemberg is only found in Italy at present.
