Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie.

"When the first baby laughed for the first time, its laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and they all went skipping about, and that was the beginning of fairies."

In the play "The Tempest" there is a character called Ariel who resembles a fairy. I always think it's a she, but in the play it's referred to as "he". Ariel can become invisible, cast spells, make sweet music in the air, can hypnotise people and make them fall asleep.

A Mid-Summer's Night Dream is full of them. There are eight spirits/fairies with speaking parts.

In The Merry Wives of Windsor, people dress up as fairies.

And in Troilus and Cressida, Achilles and Patroclus are fairies, but not the kind we've been talking about.
