The pledge that the United States President Rutherford Hayes made was not to seek a re election.
Rutherford Hayes became President because he make a deal with the southern States to pull the troops out of the south if they would cask their elector votes for for him and this would take away the protection of the newly free Black people. Rutherford B. Hayes and George W. Bush did not win the poplars but, they both became president because of the elector votes, so poplar votes did not win election.
Hayes's White House telephone connect only to the Treasurer's office, so there was no reason to make many calls.
It is unknown as to why Rutherford B. Hayes wanted to be president. Hayes was actually chosen as a presidential candidate by the Republican party in 1875 and held a secret oath because of the tension around the election.
Rutherford Hayes was the first president to use a telephone at the White House . Since the Bell phone was invented in 1876 when Grant was in office, it is possible that he was given the opportunity to use a phone, but I can find no record he did. Hayes talked on a telephone in 1877 and had one installed in the White House in 1879. The only call that Hayes could make was to the treasury department.
Reconstruction For your info- It ended in 1877 with the election of President Rutherford B. Hayes.
An agreement in Congress so that President Hayes could take office
An agreement in Congress so that President Hayes could take office
The Democrats agreed not to make a huge fuss over the Republicans stealing the election of 1876, and the Republicans agreed that they would end Reconstruction and the military occupation of the South, which by that time was still ongoing in only South Carolina and Louisiana. Samuel J. Tilden had won both the popular vote and the electoral vote, but the Republicans decided to, as one said, "fix things up", and they did, changing the vote totals in South Carolina, Louisiana and Oregon, to make "His Fradulency", Rutherfraud (really Rutherford) B. Hayes President. Hayes seems to have been a nice, honorable man and took no personal part in this skullduggery. The Republican Party had begun in 1854 as a small group with high ideals but was largely corrupt by that time, and most of the time since.
I pledge allegiance to the flag.
Often not very well. It was actually the Thirteenth Amendment which freed the slaves, not the Emancipation Proclaimation. Unfortunately, when Rutherford B. Hayes began President, he had to do some wheeling and dealing with the House of Representatives (he actually lost the popular vote) and part of the deal was to undo Reconstruction, the program than was supposed to advance the former slaves to full citizenship.
