No role. Women in the 1700-1800's had no rights, couldn't own land, have a bank account, go to college, or vote. It isn't until 1920 women gain the right to vote. Some worked Behind the Scenes to try to persuade husbands or fathers of political action or views. John Adams wife was one of the women who stated her thoughts and opinions on politics. She would push for women's rights in her letters to him.
