under the distributor cap and rotor button
The rotor button is inside the distributor cap.
Rotor buttons are inside a distributor.
Once you get the distributor cap off you should be able to pull the button off without a problem. Just remember to install the new button in the exact position you pulled the old one off.
If you remove the distributor cap and look at the left side of the distributor you will see a electrical connector and that is the cam sensor. You will have to remove the rotor button to get to it.
The rotor only fits one way on to the distributor shaft.
Firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Move #1 cylinder to where piston is up, and on the compression stroke (TDC). Easiest way to do this is with a compression tester on the #1 cylinder - rotor cap OFF. When you see the pressure build...you're on the compression stroke. The rotor cap should be at the #1 cylinder firing position...simply re-install the rotor cap at this time - noting which button is #1. Starting at #1 install the wire for the #1 cylinder onto the rotor cap...the next button (clockwise) on the cap should correlate to #8; the third button on the rotor cap is, cylinder #4..and so on. work your way around the rotor cap until you have all 8 cylinder wires in place...ignition coil wire in the middle button. Engine should start and run.
rotor button is the little gadget inside distributer cap attached to the distributor shaft this spins when engine is turning over, distributing the spark to each plug at the right time
Most rotors turn clockwise.
Clockwise.
mark position of old distributor on motor and on old dist, also mark position of rotor. Remove old distributor, mark the position on new distributor, move rotor to the marked position, drop in
TDC on the compression stroke for number one cylinder, looking from the front, the rotor should be pointing to the 5:00 o'clock to 5:30 position on the cap.
