Points, no. Distributor cap, yes.Points, no. Distributor cap, yes.
the cap may not be cracked as you said when the cap gets wet when distributor cap gets wet, moisture will also get into where the plug leads go into cap. this will cause same problem you described. if cap is cracked it will misfire, etc whether wet or dry. to fix problem of cap getting wet, you need to somehow stop water from getting on the cap
It does not have a DISTRIBUTOR OR CAP
It does not have a distributor cap.
Ignition control module.. located under the distributor The distributor cap is probably cracked and moisture is getting into it. Replace the cap .
Moisture is rarely a problem unless the cap is cracked. Accel offers a high performance distributor that comes with an O ring around the bottom of the cap to seal it to the distributor housing.

Either a bad cap, or the distributor is worn and crankcase gasses are traveling up into the cap. Yes it could be a bad or cracked cap, however that was a typical problem with the 6cyl AMC's. After 1976 AMC did offer a kit which helped keep it dry, but it was not 100%. Over the years what I have done is spray under the cap and the distriuter under the cap with WD-40 or something like that which has the ability to disapate water allowing the metal to metal spark to occur
there is no distributor cap nor distributor
