Assuming that you are a resident of the US- First steps would be to insure that you meet the legal requirements to purchase a firearm- the disqualifying conditions are the same for full auto or a single shot, and to determine if YOUR state permits private ownership of full autos- some states do not. Having cleared those two hurdles, your next will be to find a firearms dealer in your home state that holds a Class III license- Class III is the term for full autos. The transfer of ownership will pass through that dealer. You will apply to the BATFE for transfer of the weapon, and pay a transfer tax of $200 (plus the dealer's fees) You will need to submit fingerprints along with the application, and a written approval from your local Chief Law Enforcement Officer (Chief of Police, Sheriff, etc). IF the transfer is being made to a legal trust, that is not required. After BATFE completes your background investigation, you may take possession of the weapon. You may ALSO have a state registration requirement- varies from state to state. I would also mention that a full auto rifle can be incredibly expensive- Law changed in 1986. ONLY those full autos already registered to a private citizen can be transferred to a private citizen- no new full autos. As a result, prices have gone out of sight.

What is the difference between asualt rifle and a rifle?

An assault rifle is a sub-category of a rifle. Both have rifled or grooved barrels as opposed to the smooth bore of the typical shotgun.A rifle can be operated by a bolt, a lever, a pump, be semi-automatic or fully automatic in addition to being a single or double action. An assault rifle is usually semi-automatic, which means the trigger has to be pulled for each shot, or fully automatic in which the gun fires until the trigger is released. Stereotypically, they're in a black plastic or composite material.Assault firearms can be in other multiple-round actions and be shotguns or pistols.
