The tectonic plates move because the area below them (the mantel) is melted rock that is heated by the Earth's core. This causes the hotter lower area to float up as the upper area cools (called convection). This movement of the liquid rock causes the tectonic plates on top to move. So the answer would be the energy responsible for the movement of the tectonics plates is heat from the Earth's core.
mantel
This is known as subduction.
A long long time ago, maybe about 1,000,000 years ago, the mantel which is under the earth's crust (and we're standing on the earth's crust) was just like the earth's crust. But now it is hot melted rock. Over the years the mantel gets hotter. The Mantel gets so hot that it melts through the continents and separates them even more. Answer Plate Tectonics. The earths crust is floating on the molten magma which is what the centre of the Earth is made of. There are currents in the magma which tore the original single land mass (Pangea) apart and dragged the pieces apart. The pieces, called plates, are still drifting. Sometimes they crash into each other like India and Asia.

Lava circulating under the mantel moves it.

Mantle is a homophone for mantel.
Mantle, is the homophone of Mantel ;)
The Mantel is 2876 km. thick.
The mantel is extremely hot. What temperature?
Alexander Mantel is 5' 10".
Dave Mantel is 183 cm.
The mantel gets heated with hot stuff
