Cathode Ray Tube
Light is produced when electrons emitted from the back of the tube strike the front of the screen, and light up the phosphor coating .
Plasma
Excitation of a gas by high voltage
LCD
Cold cathode florescent lamps, placed behind the LCD screen
LCD LED
White LED's placed behind the LCD screen
OLED
Light emitting diodes. Light is generated by passing current across a PN junction of specially doped material, which causes electrons to change valence level and emit light.
AN LCD television uses liquid crystals to generate an image. For each pixel on the screen, there are three crystals, one each for red, green and blue colors. Each crystal can be controlled to become clear or opaque and it is this ability of the crystal that builds a complete image. The crystals themselves do not generate light but simply allow light to pass through them when they are clear.
The light is generated behind the sheet of crystals. Until recently, the standard light source was based on fluorescent lamps. 2009 saw the introduction of LEDs as light sources. They are rather more efficient than conventional lighting and have also allowed the body of the television to be thinner than before.
Although the light source is important, it doesn't actually take part in the image generation. An LED LCD television is still an LCD television. These are not to be confused with a true LED television which uses three LEDs for every pixel. The LEDs glow so they provide the image generation as well as the light source itself.
Simply the "Electric energy" to "Light energy" and to your eyes that makes you see the Images.

Panasonic is a very known and reputable brand for their high quality and large LCD televisions. Their largest selection of LCD televisions range from 6 inch to 64 inch LCD televisions.
Some of the brands that produce the LCD TV with freeview are Bush, JMB, Blaupunkt, Technika, and LG. LG produces the best quality LCD TV's with Freeview.
In older "tube" televisions, there is one bulb that produces light and reflects throughout the Television Housing. Newer LCD and Plasma screens use totally different technology and have no bulbs in them.
Samsung is the maker of many different models of LCD televisions. Most of them have 1080p resolution, which produces images that are both vivid and sharp.
Basically ,LED stands for Light Emitting Diode and LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. LCD TV use fluorescent lights while LED TV use those light emitting diodes. The fluorescent lights in an LCD TV are always behind the screen. On an LED TV, the light emitting diodes can be placed either behind the screen or around its edges. In my opinion, LED TV is more efficient than LCD TV

In an LCD monitor or TV a backlight is a light source (typically LED or fluorescent tube) behind the LCD panel that provides the light to make the display visible and readable.
Yes, Phillips has been a really good produces of tv's. They are widely known for being a reliable companny that produces electronics.
LED's are usually also LCD's. LED LCD's are usually better as you do not have to worry about the light bulb will not burn out because led's last longer. I would suggest LED LCD's as the lightbulb not burning out will save you some money.
No. Any light other than the light from the TV is what is called Ambient light. Ambient light is always bad as it detracts from the viewing experience. It can distract your eyes and actually tire them more quickly. Phillips tried selling a LCD TV that had backlights built in. It didn't do well.
Samsung LCD TV, no picture but sound is there.I have more than 100 Samsung LCD TVs, series LA32 and LA40, under my care. So far in the past three years i have this problem only because of LCD Back light inverter.please check LCD's back light inverter circuit for proper function. it will not cost much for the repair of the circuit if you do it by yourself.
