It increases the girth of the stem......................
Cell division . :)
Because stems, roots and leaves form the main part of the plant body. So long the plant is growing all along these parts, it is the vegetative growth only. When flowering initiates the plant enters in to the reproductive stage.
Plant form
Stems do many things. They support the plant. They act like the plant's plumbing system, conducting water and nutrients from the roots and food in the form of glucose from the leaves to other plant parts. The stem provides protection for the upper portions of the plant (those which normally carry the reproductive organs). It also protects the vascular system of the plant from environmental (weather), mechanical, insect or animal damage. In part the vascular system provides the stem with rigidity. The stem contributes to the increase in surface area for photosynthesis, branches hold the leaves further away from the stem (where light levels can be lower), exposing more leaf area to the sun. Stems also elevate the leaf canopy away from other plants which may be competing for the same sunlight (such as in dense jungles).
i feel a plant cell wall provides shape and it is a form of protection for the cell
The cell membrane in animal cells and the cell wall in plant cells give the cell its form, shape, and protection.
The skull provides protection for the brain. The ribs form a cage to protect the heart and lungs.
The vegetative growth is reduced on successful pollination and most of the food supply is diverted to form seeds.

The surface temperature of Pluto is about minus 228 degrees Celsius, so plant growth is not possible; additionally any water that may occur would be in the form of solid ice.
The plant uses carbon dioxide and water with the catalysts light and Chlorophyll to form glucose (used for growth and repair around the plant) and oxygen.
Pottasium, although not in it's normal, commonly known metal form
People put nitrogen in fertilizers because nitrogen in the form of ammonium nitrogen is essential for a plant's growth.
These answers assume that the soil's healthy. Healthy soil provides the plant with water, food, and cover. Specifically, it does so by providing the plant with [1] protection from what can be yo-yo temperature extremes above ground. That protection is increased with above-ground mulch. Healthy soil also provides the plant with [2] pore spaces of air and moisture. [3] necessary organic material, from dead and decaying organisms. [4] 16-17 necessary nutrients, and minerals. [5] infiltrated and then drained moisture. [6] growing space, for roots. [7] beneficial organisms. For example, nitrogen-fixing bacteria and nematodes make otherwise unavailable nitrogen available in soluble form to the plant.
pH level of the soil changes and it doesn't support plant growth
Phosphorus is a macro-element for plant growth. If the soils are deficient in phosphorus where mustard is growing, application of phosphorus in the form of rock phosphate will enhance the growth and yield.
