∙ 13y agoWell, something that has a copyright has the right that no one can copy the work. When someone does that, it is called plagiarism. A patent is basically the same thing, but it is more or less used on items instead of books, which is what a copyright is used for. A patent is used on things like blinds for your windows or doors and things like that.

∙ 9y agoThey were created to encourage the development of the arts and new machines. By granting the patent or copyright, they protect the company's ability to make money from the new development. The holder doesn't have to worry about someone stealing their ideas.
