Ideally an assistant breeding manager would be able to take over for the manager for part of the time.
Depending on the number of employees and their responsibilities the breeding manager may oversee, legal secretaries, stallion managers, mare managers, be involved with veterinarians, Accountants, mating decisions and maintenance staff.
They may or may not have direct interaction with clients.
Managers may not necessarily need to have an intimate understanding of all aspects
of the operation as long a they are a surrounded by competent team members.
Smaller scale operations may have fewer staff members with each individual being required to fill more "shoes".
The fewer staff members the greater the requirement for a breeding manager to have intimate knowledge of all the aspects of the operation.
The level of knowledge/education required to obtain a job as an assistant manager may also hinge on how rapidly the operation requires the candidate to come up to speed.
