A:Mark has several direct quotations from the Old Testament. In these examples, the prophets, Moses or Elijah are cited as the source, or Jesus simply says, "It is written," or the like: 1:2-3, 4:12, 7:6-7, 7:10, 10:19, , 11:17, 12:10-11, 12:29-31, 12:36, , 14:27.

The following verses quote material from the Old Testament, without citing the scriptures as the source: 9:7, 11:9-10, 13:24-26, 15:34.

Mark makes many other allusions to the Old Testament, but with such subtlety that these generally pass unnoticed to readers not sufficiently familiar with the Old Testament. For example (1:13-14), the forty days in the wilderness, after the baptism of Jesus, is in its entirety a direct allusion to Old Testament passages about Elijah and Moses.
