Colonists who had holdings in land or other kinds of wealth, might have opposed the Revolution, because if the Revolution were unsuccesssful, they risked at the very least confiscation of their property and money. Some loyalists had businesses that needed British protection from foreign forces and pirates. Some colonists needed British protection to prevent other countries like Spain and even France from encroaching on their lands. In addition, many loyalist colonists simply preferred to be part of the British empire, the strongest empire on Earth at the time. They thought the british would win it they had a war. They were wealthy, so taxes did not matter. "If you disobey the king, you didsbey God."
