The Mars 2, Prop-M rover, was sent in 1971 and was the first Mars Rover to be sent. Unfortunately the attempt was unsuccessful. The first successful Mars rover (and the third successful rover sent into space) was Sojourner. It was launched by NASA on December 4, 1996, and landed July 4, 1997. The most recent, successful, and currently operating Mars rover is the Opportunity (MER-B), Mars Exploration Rover, which landed successfully on January 25, 2004.So far there have been a total of five Mars Rovers.
No one has reached Mars to this date, a rover by the name of "Spirit" landed on Mars' surface on January 4, 2004.
there is only one mars rover and NASA invented the mars rover.
Eight rovers were sent to Mars: Mars 2, Prop-M rover, 1971, failed Mars 3, Prop-M rover, 1971, failed Viking 1, landed July 20, 1976, longest rover to function on Mars (6 years 116 days), lost contact due to a faulty command on November 11, 1982. Viking 2, landed September 3, 1976, stopped functioning on 11 April 1980 when its batteries stopped working Sojourner rover, Mars Pathfinder, landed successfully on July 4, 1997. Communications were lost on September 27, 1997. Spirit, Mars Exploration Rover, landed successfully on January 4, 2004. Rover is still operating as of April 3, 2009, 5 years after the original mission limit. Opportunity, Mars Exploration Rover, landed successfully on January 25, 2004. Rover is still operating as of April 3, 2009, 5 years after the original mission limit. Phoenix, landed May 25, 2008, confirmed presence of water-ice on Mars, mission ended November 10, 2008. These Mars rovers are in development: Mars Science Laboratory, by NASA. Planned Mars launch 2011. ExoMars, by the ESA. Planned Mars launch 2016.
There's no specific time limit for how long a rover can last on Mars. Accidents and mechanical failure can affect the ability of a rover to survive. The Opportunity rover has so far been working almost non-stop for seven years. Its twin rover Spirit has not been heard from in almost a year and may no longer be functional.
Yes it does, dust storms impeded nasa rover deployed there in 2004 .
