Buddhism believes in the middle way. Before Lord Buddha attained Buddhahood (supreme enlightenment) He was a prince, where life was in total pleasure. He left this endless joy-filled life (as a prince) to seek the meaning of suffering of mankind. For 6 years He underwent physical and mental torture to seek answer of human suffering. In the end He realise that the answer was not at both end of the extreme; one end was the fun-filled life as a prince and the other extreme was the self inflicted physical and mental torture. He found the middle way to end suffering.
The bottom line of His Teaching is that we must not be attach to the near and dear as well as we must not reject the far and the dejected; we must be equal and treat everyone as one.
