Ah, the Year of the Elephant. Well, obviously they weren't Muslims, because Mohammed was just getting born. However, a number of them were monotheists. Many of those were Christians and a few were even Jewish, usually as a result of marrying into a Jewish family. Others were polytheists, worshipping by some accounts at least one god for each day in the year.
Doubtless many of these "gods" were spirits of place. That is, local deities associated with a particular rock or spring or shady place where once a traveler had found comfort. A few were surviving versions of the ancient gods of Mesopotamia, especially Sin the Moongod, for whom Sinai is named.
They were mostly worshiping Allah (or God in English) but with partners or Idols. In addition, there were some Jews and Christians as minority.

According to the Bible, Abraham had a son by Hagar, called Ishmael, who would be the father of a nation. Judaic tradition is that the sons of Ishmael, called Ishmaelites, are the Arabs. There is no evidence that the Arabs themselves had believed they were descended from Ishmael until the arrival of Christianity in southern Arabia. By the time of Muhammad (c 570-632 CE), the Arabs had begun to accept that they, or at least some Arabs, really are descended from Ishmael.

As you may already know, Aryans were the groups of peoples living in the Indo-European area from approximately 3000BC. The religion of these peoples was similar to the early religion of the Arabs before the coming of Mohammed. They believed in the "sky gods" and worshipped the celestial bodies such as the moon and sun. In general, they were a very warlike people and the god that appealed to them most was the "the storm god", a god of warfare, conquest and expansionism. Later in their history, the Aryans were influenced by several other religions, including those of India eg. The Veda, Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism (a religion largely based on non-violence). With the birth of Mohammed (570 AD) they may have gradually turned to Islam.
