Today any and all. In early Colonial times only trinitarian Christianity and beginning in 1650 both the Church of England and the Catholics were banned from openly practicing their faith by the Puritans.
It was established as a refuge for English Catholics but it never had a Catholic majority. Political domination however was completely in the hands of Leonard Calvert and a few other English gentlemen who were Catholics.
Established as a Catholic haven the majority religion during the Colonial time frame was always the protestant Church of England. Even when the Puritans took control of Colonial government and banished the Catholics and Anglicans they were not the majority religion.
When it was first started it was mostly Roman Catholic but freedom of religion was given to anyone who believed in the trinity.
There are numerous religions practiced in Maryland.
