The group is know as "Jehovah's Witnesses". They believe that receiving blood transfusions are the same as drinking blood, which is stickily forbidden in the Old Testament law and repeated in the New Testament book of Acts where Gentile believers were to "they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication."

The problem comes down to whither or not transfusions are drinking blood or not.

Is there anything morally wrong and why is it wrong?

yes, there is. Some would argue that the taking of life (killing someone) is morally wrong. A counter-argument might be if in self-defence, the taking of a life might be morally right, since it preserves another's life. However, this does not contradict the point that the taking of a life is still morally wrong. Indeed, the taking of a life can be both morally right and morally wrong.

What are some criticisms of cultural relativism?

Cultural Relativism is important because, when taking into account philosophical moral views it is vital to remember that different cultures have different views on what is moral and what is immoral. Especially if you are trying to find one absolute moral rule/law/truth. For example what is morally permissible in one culture may not be morally permissible in another. Such as cannibalism. Say that there are tribes in Africa that believe cannibalism is morally permissible - so long as it's not from your own tribe. To us that sounds horrific, cannibalism is not only immoral but also illegal (keep in mind though that just because something is illegal does not necessarily make it immoral and vice versa(sp?)). Taking into account the difference in cultures allows us to view this act with less horror and more with a critical inquiry; which is important when searching for that ever elusive absolute truth.

Why do your laws punish so severely for the act of murder?

Why did nativists believe that fewer immigrants should be allowed in the country?

Nativists believed that fewer immigrants should be allowed in the country because they felt that immigrants took jobs away from native-born Americans, caused social problems, and diluted American culture and values. They also feared that immigrants would not assimilate into American society easily.

Why is plagiarism consid?

It is considered unethical because you are taking the work of another person and claiming it as your own. It's the same as stealing. When you cite a reference, you are giving them credit for their ideas and research. When you fail to credit them, you are saying that those are your ideas and you did that research. That is morally wrong to do.
