The freedom of the press. The freedom to peaceably assemble. The freedom to petition for redress of greivences. The freedom of speech. The freedom to practice whatever religion that you choose. It also prevents the formation of a national church (like the Church of England).

U.S. Const., Amend. I:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

1. The Establishment Clause - freedom from state endorsement of religion;

2. The Free Exercise Clause - freedom to practice religion;

3. The Free Speech Clause - free expression of ideas by individuals and groups

4. The Free Press Clause - free expression of ideas by the press;

5. The Right of Peaceful Assembly Clause (including freedom of association) - freedom of assembly of the people, and freedom of association and limits thereof among the people;

6. The Right to Petition Clause - right of the people to petition the government for a redress of their grievances against it.
