Roman Catholic AnswerThe number one ritual and prayer for the deceased is a funeral or requiem Mass in which the person is commended to God, and prayers are offered to ease him in Purgatory. The Catholic belief is not so much in a life after death, as a continued life without the body. God put us on this earth as a trial, He gave us completely free will, and revealed to us what we are to do with it. When He created us out of nothing, He made us immortal. Every single thing you do on this earth is constituting you as the kind of person you are going to be in eternity. Every single thing that the Church does is to insure your eternal bliss in heaven.

In the story of the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico, acculturation is seen through the incorporation of Catholic traditions into the indigenous festival, while syncretism is evident in the blending of Aztec rituals with Spanish customs. The use of Catholic symbols like crosses and prayers alongside indigenous practices like creating ofrendas demonstrates how these two cultural elements have fused together to create a unique tradition.

Do you think rituals are characteristics of the Catholic worship?

Roman Catholic Answer:Ritual is the name of the book containing the prayers and ceremonies for the administration of the sacraments, blessings, etc. Rituals are the way of doing things laid down by religious law. Everything that the Catholic Church does has been laid down by Jesus and His Apostles, and their successors, the Bishops. In other words, you're asking a tautology (using different words to say the same thing twice!)
