A major shift in economic, military, and political power took place. Enabled by machines like steamboats and the repeating gun the west began long distance trade and warfare that led to colonization and exploitation of Asia. The colonies were a source of cheap raw materials for European factories and the colonized people served as captive customers for the manufactured products.

Britain was against industrial growth in this area. They didn't supply any incentives to industrial growth or help the nations that make up South Asia obtain this in any way. This caused rampant poverty throughout the area and post poned the nations demographic transition, thus causing birth rates to remain high. Recently improvements have been made in South Asia so the average birth rate is around 2.7 (ideal is 2.1). In prior years though the average was as high at 7 ish. Test tomorrow?

The Agricultural Revolution happened in the Paleolithic Era in Mesopotamia and in some areas of South-Western Asia (near the Indus river valley) in which Man saw a shift from hunting and gathering and nomadic lifestyles to a stationary, agrarian society that began to control the growth of crops and domesticate animals. The "captains of industry" were the early developers and controllers of industry and commerce during the Industrial Revolution of Britain, and again in the US in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The term may still be applied today to powerful leaders in the modernization of Asia.
