They were better at digging for gold than Europeans so eventually they were hounded off the fields and returned back to china. many Chinese stayed on in Australia in small farming and service industries
The gold rush practically ruined theChinese culturebecause the European people were jealous of the Chinese when they found the 'Welcome Stranger' nugget in an abandoned mine of theirs so they cut of their pigtails (which was part of their culture) and made them the main target of a great deal of racism. The gold rush had great impact on the aboriginals, because their land was taken away from them for a long time and they would have to find a different place to live until the gold rush was over.
The Chinese diggers worked hard and were honest but preferred not to merge with the other diggers as they either did not speak much English or did not trust the diggers ( or both ) .
During the Australian gold rush the Chinese were hugely mistreated. Diggers would poisoned their food or shoot them, and they were usually banned from the new gold fields.
As well as being mistreated on the gold fields, the Chinese were disliked by the Australian community's because they worked for longer hours, harder and for less. Despite this bad treatment, many Chinese people chose to stay in Australia after the gold rush.
One of the main effects of the gold rushes on agriculture is that a lot of the men who worked on the farms, sheep and cattle stations simply downed their tools and left. Workers, owners, roustabouts, stockmen, jackaroos - they left their jobs for the lure of the goldfields. Often women and children were left to tend the stations their husbands left behind. As a result, Aboriginal labour became more popular. The goldrushes saw the rise of loyal Aboriginal stockmen and jackaroos who were willing to work long and hard for perhaps less pay than their predecessors.
