Royal Assent:

Her Majesty the Queen of Canada is one of the three components of the Parliament of Canada, alongside the appointed Senate and the elected House of Commons. When the Senate and Commons have agreed on a bill to be passed, it is presented to the Governor General (as the Queen's representative) for Royal Assent. No bill can become law without having received the Royal Assent of the Queen or one of Her Majesty's representatives.

Royal Recommendations:

Any bill that appropriate funds must be recommended to the House of Commons by the Governor General of Canada, on the advice of a minister. Members of the House of Commons who are not ministers can attempt to propose money bills, but when the bill reaches its last vote without having received a Royal Recommendation, the Speaker of the House must drop the question and the bill is not proceeded with further.

Disallowance:

Also, the Queen may disallow federal legislation that has been passed within the previous two years (this is a power which is not delegated to the Governor General or the Queen's other representatives).

Does Canada need a monarchy government?

The Canadian constitution requires that monarchy play a role in most functions of Government. For example, many appointments to the public service are ordered by the Governor General of Canada (as the Queen's representative) on the advice of ministers. Members of Parliament could propose changes to the nature of our constitutional monarchy, but such changes would have to be consented to by the Senate, the House of Commons, and each of the ten provincial legislatures.
