Magellan didn't make it the whole way himself, but his ships sailed down the east coast of South America and through the Strait of Magellan (named after him), through the Pacific, the Marianas and Guam, and on to the Philippines, which is where Magellan died.
Elcano, in the only ship that survived the entire voyage, traded in the Spice Islands (Maluku), went through the Indian ocean, came around the cape of Good Hope, and then west and north back to Spain. The ship that tried to go back through the Pacific route was captured and wrecked.
Of Magellans' original five ships, only Victoria survived the first circumnavigation of the globe.

The Spanish sailor who led the first voyage to circumnavigate the globe was Ferdinand Magellan. He set sail in 1519 with a fleet of five ships, aiming to find a westward route to the Spice Islands. Although Magellan did not survive the entire journey, as he was killed in the Philippines in 1521, his expedition ultimately completed the circumnavigation under the command of Juan Sebastián Elcano, returning to Spain in 1522. This voyage provided valuable insights into global geography and navigation.
