William Harvey (Born April 1st 1578, died June 3rd 1657) was an English Physician who first discovered and described correctly the circulation of blood being pumped by the heart around the body.
It has been known for years that blood circulates round the body. William Harvey was the first 'modern' to accurately describe that the heart pumps round the blood (though it was known to some ancients), but most people realised that blood goes round the body-this is the purpose of using leeches, after all.
