It probably varies between scientists to whom the leader (or most influential) in this area is. Although the answer you will hear more often than most is Charles Darwin and his theory of natural selection, which he worked on after an expedition to the Galapagos Islands. With only his notepad, drawings and samples that he took of the creatures he encountered on the Islands, he noted that creatures, those that were the same species, differed depending what Island they were on. For example the Mockingbirds he discovered on different Islands had different sized beaks which suggested they had adapted to a change and evolved. My knowledge is limited on the subject but in my mind he produced the theories which have helped us understand evolution much better, and he did it with a notepad and samples....very limited technology compared to what we have today.
Like I said, I'm no expert I just love anything to do with science and watch a lot of documentaries.
It is not clear that Isaac Newton was a good leader. In his life he was a physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist, and theologian. He is considered by many scholars and members of the general public to be one of the most influential people in human history, but he was never a leader of people.
in yg they dont make the leader the oldest one, they make the most confident one the leader.

Traits Model of Leadership: Leaders versus FollowersInitial investigations of leadership considered leaders as individuals endowed with certain personality traits which constituted their abilities to lead. The studies investigated individual traits such as intelligence, birth order, socioeconomic status, and child-rearing practices (Bass, 1960; Bird, 1940; Stogdill, 1948, 1974). Stogdill (1974) identified six categories of personal factors associated with leadership: capacity, achievement, responsibility, participation, status, and situation but concluded that such a narrow characterization of leadership traits was insufficient: "A person does not become a leader by virtue of the possession of some combination of traits" (Stogdill, 1948, p. 64). The attempts to isolate specific individual traits led to the conclusion that no single characteristic can distinguish leaders from non-leaders.
