It's the backup light switch.
Its located on the back of the oil pump. Take the left tire off and the splash guard and you should be able to spot it, its the only sensor on the trans pump Its located on the back of the oil pump. The vehicle speed signal comes from the abs sensor on top of the rear axle. (used for speedometer) The transmission output speed signal comes form the sensor on the driver side rear of the trans. ( used for shift timing only)
above right side halfshaft input into trans. can only be seen under neath the car.
Check out the wiring for the speed sensor located on the trans,. GoodluckJoe
On the 98 there are two in the front, one on each wheel and the rear might have one in the pumpkin. The one in the top of the rear axle is the main speed sensor, the front sensors are only there if it has 4 wheel abs. The vehicle speed sensor is located on the top of the rear axle.
A three speed only has one speed sensor. It is located on the case where the right axle shaft comes out. The 4 speed has the two sensors.
If it's only when you attempt third gear the problem is in your transmission.
there is no cable only speed sensor on trans
No crank sensor, only the sensor in the distributor.
You must drain the transaxle-(transmission). Then remove the back plate on the trans axle (located on the back side of the section where the axles go in) with this plate removed you will see a large ring gear on the left,----- in the center of this opening there are two smaller gears the axle ends are going though them. Put a large flat screwdriver in there one side against the end of the axle the other side against a large pin in the center hit the end of the screwdriver with the palm of your hand to get it in there good and pry the axle out (this won't be very much pressure ) repeat for the other axle. Note!!!!!!!---on manual tansaxles only remove one axle at a time. Do not take them both out at the same time gears will fall into trans.
if the unit has 4 wheel air suspension then the frt sensors are located on the lower frt control arm and on the rear control arms in the rear if it only has rear air suspension the sensor is located on the rear axle on the drivers side and is attached on the frame it is a very simple level sensor
The oxygen sensor is located on the exhaust manifold and is the only item on the exhaust with wires going to it.
