One has to think that he notices you with him at his school events and things like that. Has he ever told you he doesn't want you there? If not I'd think he appreciates you being with him but maybe he's like you, too shy to ask if there is room in his heart for you. Do yourself a favor, ask him his thoughts on this matter and good luck. Just tell him that you like him! It's likely that he likes you back, and even if he doesn't feel the same way about you, you can just laugh it off because you're friends. He won't judge you. At least, a real friend wouldn't.
