With solid state ignition and fuel injection, this is what it cost a friend of mine. $7 for an air filter, $32 for eight spark plugs, and $4 for a PVC valve. $43 for parts and $100 for labor.

It all depends on whether you want to do it yourself or pay a mechanic. The cv joints in my impala were 160 for both with me replacing them.
just had this problem in a 2002 mercury sable 3.0 and the problem was the crank sensor that sits by the injectors on top ,you have to replace the shaft and sensor both,it cost about 60.00 for both parts +labor and if you do it your self make sure you mark on how it comes out to keep it in time has to be put back in the same way it comes out... kramer2234
if you go to any auto parts store they have repair manuals that show you how to take apart and put back together your specific vehicle, has photos. would find mountaineer in a ford explorer book. cost about $20, but are worth it.

try changing the d.p.f.e. cost about $35,i just replaced one on a 2003 mercury mountaineer.
