where are the temp sensors on a 2002 jeep liberty sport located
if you have a differential temp gauge installed the temp will run a little lower than engine temp it is close in range, but generally a little lower
You may have a 210 thermostat installed.
IN THE WATER JACKET.
The temp of my Jeep Grand Cherokee seems to run between 210 to 220 degree whether I am on the freeway or city driving.
It should be between #3 and #5 spark plugs.
The 1996 will not have a hole in the rear of the head for the gauges coolant temp sender.
The "Coolant Sensor", for the ECU, is right next to the water neck at the front of the engine. the "Coolant sender", for the temperature guage, should be on the back of the head at the rear of the engine!
temp should be 190 for a 4.0 ....AlsoIt depends on the thermostat that you have installed. If it's a 180 degree thermostat, the engine should run at right around 180 degrees. Recognize that stock engine temp gauges are notoriously inaccurate so don't blame the thermostat if everything else seems ok but the gauge says the temp is off.
When the temp rises and falls , it is almost always a head gasket.
You should keep the orriginal t-stat in the motor, the computer isset up to controll the engine according to A certain temp. If you are taking about A t-stat for the fan, It should come on around the operating temp of the engine or A little earlier for high perf vehicles.
