Well you should first of all take it straight to the vet when you ge it even if you got it from a breeder and the breeder said they just did. its always good for a second look with you so you know for sure everything is done proper. than take it from there depending on the breed get a roomy cage put blankets in the cage and a clock that ticks(so it'll feel like the pups mother heart beat) also what ever you do don't sleep with it i know the crying is heart breaking but after a week or two the puppy will stop realising know is going to come it'll get used to its new surroundings and then after another week you can stop sleeping with but be careful if its a really tiny dog. oh i almost forgot the pups to young to go outside so train it using puppy pads (local pet store try to go to petsmart or one that does not sell dogs and cats) than as i say depending on the breed take it outside when it gets older (ask your veterinarian what age) plus if theres snow outside a bit is okay but if theres a fair amount don't it outside as it could get sick. hope i helped.
