The hamster is probably afraid of your hand. Even though you love your hamster and just want to pet him, he is small and does not know what this scary thing going after him is. Try not grab at the hamster before he has had a chance to fully wake up. You may try handing him yummy hamster treats so he connects your hand with good food. Pet stores have many types of these treats, or you can try a small amount of fresh, plain veggies. Be patient, take your time, and let your hamster get used to your hand.

AnswerDwarf hamsters are naturally pretty vicious. But don't give up hope just because other dwarf hamsters are mean. Everyday pet your hamster, petting a little more each day. After a while you could try taking him out of his cage but only for a little while. Take him out for a little longer each day. Make sure that you don't rush your hamster or leave him out of his cage for too long, or he might become mean again. With a lot of patience and time, hopefully your hamster will become nice.

Dwarf hamsters will go wild if they are not handled for more then 2 weeks. try to get him in a paper towel tube then dump him on your hand.

AnswerI once got an EXTREMELY vicious dwarf hamster and it would bite anyone. I took my time and was patient. I got him used to being petted first by petting him through the cage with a paintbrush (soft bristles) and if he attacks the paintbrush pull it away so he will learn not to attack it. After a few days of this I got some nice, thick work gloves and got him used to being handled. Every time he started chewing or biting the glove I would gently GENTLY tap him on the nose (GENTLY!!!!! Just make sure you don't hurt him but you get the message through, the nose is sensitive though so maybe try tapping GENTLY the top of his head, but NOT TOO HARD). Eventually my hamster got the idea and hardly ever bit anyone.

TIPS: Don't make any sudden movements, ESPECIALLY from above. This can frighten the little guy into biting. Make sure you go slow and be patient, this can be frustrating and if you simply give up, your hamster will keep on biting. My hamster never bit after that unless you put your finger right in front of his face so I advise NOT doing that unless you WANT to get bitten. The paper towel tube is not so great and I think it is kind of mean, maybe if you got him to crawl into it and then let him crawl out ON HIS OWN it would be OK. I hope this helps, good luck. :-)

AnswerDwarf Hamsters aren't always vicious and can be quite friendly, however when in a cage they seem to be at their most territorial (males tend to be anyway). I would suggest handling them outside of their cage more by getting them out with a toilet roll tube and if they give a nibble or try to bite just blow in their face a bit every time (not too hard though). Through time they will realise you're not out to hurt them. I have tried the whole giving them a treat on my hand etc and they would just go to bite my hand, simply because by then they had decided that my hand in their cage was not what they wanted. Just be gentle and patient with them though. Talking to them when you're in the room and when they come out is a good idea (mine responds to his name now). If you try to pick them up when they are in the cage I'm not surprised if they're trying to bite. They just dislike being picked up in general as they are so small I think it probably hurts them in comparison to the huge Syrian hams. Once they realise the person that feeds them (rather than just the hand) they will get more used to you. When they're busy eating something and seem to have their focus on it, maybe just a few gentle strokes on the centre of their back or their head would be a good idea. This will associate them being stroked as more of a relaxing thing, because they are already relaxed when eating. Some hamsters do tend to nibble a bit more though. Mine are brothers but very different tempermants; one loves to be handled and wouldn't even bite if you put your finger in front of him now (unless you invade his cage but I just don't give him the opportunity). The other is still quite cautious and nibbles a bit at times (possibly because he loves food and just eats at all times but he is a bit more laid back to having his cage invaded) so I think you just need to get used to the particular tempermant yours might have. Hope all of this helps.

Young hamster hopped out of my hand several feet to the floor. Now she just drags around her hind legs. Is this permanent?

You should take the hamster to the veterinarian immediately if you haven't done so already. This could be permanent. You are not supposed to hold a hamster high above the floor. It's extremely dangerous and can be fatal to the hamster if he jumps off your hand.

Are African dwarf frogs dangerous pets?

Only danger I know of is to the frog itself if it jumps out of your tank. Which they will try.

If a hamster jumps off your lap and squeals and then has trouble walking what should you do besides taking it to the vet?

If you are not going to take the hamster to the vet, I would suggest that you put the hamster back in its cage. If there are no apparent signs of blood, just keep it in cage and keep it warm for the hamster, no drafts. See what it is doing after a couple of days. Sometimes, a little time is all they need to heal. Just watch the hamster. Don't attempt to pick it up for any reason until you see it out an about under its own power in its cage by itself. It is OK to pet it but do not attempt to pick it up.

Why is it when you try to pick up or pet your hamster it will bite you and if you use a towel or something he just jumps out of your hands what do you do?

the hamster is scared when you corner it or put your hand s towards its face .the best thing to do is rub the sawdust from inside the cage in your hands then try to relax your hand with the Pam of the hand facing up. then the hamster will sniff the sawdust in your hand it should go on your hand but try not to lift it as it might get scared again ,try and put food in your finger tips and feed hamster as the fingertips seems to be smaller than the Pam of your hand .then give time for your pet hamster to trust you .

Is 177 beets per minute for a 12 year old boy normal?

No it should be somewhere between 70 and 80 BPM if it suddenly jumps up for no reason you should seek medical attention. 177 sounds like tachycardia which can lead to stroke or heart attack.
