is the transmiton
what will fix the overdrive light from flashing in a 1996 mercury grand marquis its a gear ratio problem between 1 and 2 shift
Check the gear switch it is located on the dashboard. You should have it set to auto; if it is set to Hi or Lo the gear light will be on. --------------------------------------------- actually , if the lights are flashing a malfunction has been detected , get it checked out
its the ecm it controls that too
When the hold light is flashing, it means there is a problem with the transmission system. The problem can be various things including the transmission is locked in a gear and can be caused by overheating or a speed sensor problem.
If the light is on ( not flashing ) that means that the overdrive has been switched off ( the 4th gear of your automatic transmission )
I know that my 1995 XLT has a brake interlock switch, that doesn"t allow my automatic transmission to shift out of park into gear unless the brake pedal is depressed - I don't know if that is what your problem is.
do you have 1st 2nd and 3rd gear, if one of them dont work your transmiton is gone, that is what im going with. motor does not have anything to do with your gears
Its flashing because of a code. Probley torconverter. Go have the codes puled at your garage.
overdrive is not working and it should be looked at by a transmission shop
the transmission is manual. when the needle gets near the red portion on the left wach for a flashing green light, then shift up a gear . repeat until in max gear.
The overdrive off light will flash in your gauge cluster when a malfunction has been detected by the powertrain control module
