What should you study in college to obtain a Pharmacology degree?

First, lets look at the definition of "Pharmacology." Pharmacology is the study of how chemical substances interact with living systems. If these substances have medicinal properties, they are referred to as pharmaceuticals. The field encompasses drug composition, drug properties, interactions, toxicology, and desirable effects that can be used in therapy of diseases. According to the above we can see that pharmacology involves both drug and science. In other words, drugs and their relationship to, or effects on biological systems. We can assume then that a student pursuing this area of study then would need a strong foundation in Biology, chemistry, and math. A good solid biology degree will incorporate all of these components and more. Still, is this what you want? If you are starting at the community college level, then a biology curriculum would work. However, there are colleges that offer a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, and PhD degree in Pharmacology. So, if you are going to pursue a bachelor's degree from the start, then apply to one of the colleges that offer it. You can find these schools on the web through a college search. In any event, even as a prerequisite to the college level courses, you should have a strong foundation at the high school level in biology, chemistry, and math. If you do not, you can start with the community college and acquire that foundation before moving on to the four year college or university that offers a degree in Pharmacology.
