Daily cleanings should include sweeping and damp cloth wiping. A variety of daily cleaners are available; my own favorite is Dupont Stonetech Revitalizer, but there are many others. Miracle Sealants makes a good one, too. To really get the tile clean you will want to use a mildly acidic cleaner but these should not be used frequently as over time they will damage the grout, the base mortar, and perhaps even the tile. If, after installation, your tile looks icky and dirty and has white residue, you will need a grout haze remover. Follow the directions carefully to minimize damage to the grout. Significant buildup of wax, sealant, etc., can be removed with Citristrip, available at most large hardware stores. After using haze remover, Citristrip, or other harsh products, you will want to reseal the tile. I use Miracle Sealant "511 Impregnator."

What are some of the differences between porcelain tile and ceramic tile?

The use of the words porcelain and ceramic to describe tiles is somewhat confusing as most are described as ceramic, then divided between porcelain and non-porcelain. The main differences are that porcelain tiles are denser, smoother and more impervious to moisture, whereas ceramic or non-porcelain tiles are softer. Therefore porcelain tiles are more suitable for areas that get harder wear.

Is Ottima china porcelian tile defective?

They have some problems with the larger tiles not adhering to any setting materials that you may use. The tile itself may have warped from being fired leaving gaps causing a hollow sound at the defined warped area of the tile known as deflection. This manufacture offers no technical/ specifications for the testing results to comply with a certified porcelain tile. Porcelain tile is defined as an impervious tile with a water absorption of 0.5% or less as measured by the ASTM C373 test method. There are, however, many instances in which tile not meeting this standard is advertised and sold as porcelain tile. Marketplace confusion, installation problems and even liability concerns can result when non-porcelain tile is misrepresented in the marketplace.
