There is no exact answer for that. Each person requires a different amount of calories for their body. These differences are based off of various factors, like height, weight, age, gender, activity level, body type, and many others. Generally, though, the average healthy adult who regularly exercsies needs about 1,500 to 2,000 caloires a day.

A rough equation is bodyweight in lbs x 15 = required calories. For example, I'm 225 lbs and I need about 3400 calories per day. 225*15 = 3375, fairly close. Of course, the amount you need will vary according to your lifestyle. If you're very active, it will be higher. If you're a couch potato, it will be lower.

(If you're outside of the US and using the metric system, the calculation is bodyweight in kgs x 33.)

The amount of recommended calories per day varies depending on age, gender, height, weight, and level of activity. According to the 2010 Dietary Guidelines, the daily calorie intake for adult women should be between 1,600 and 2,400, depending on level of activity. For adult men it ranges from 2,000 to 3,000 a day.

The more active you are, the more calories are needed per day.
