Traditionally, women sit on the north side and men on the south side. Everyone enters in a door on the east side facing the dawn. Everyone moves around in a clockwise fashion. The female hogan is modeled after the shape of the mountain Huerfano Mesa or Dzil Na'oodilii where First Man and First Woman lived and Changing Woman gave birth to the Hero Twins among other things. .
